Zihni Doğan, a former Supreme Court of Appeals member who was imprisoned in the aftermath of a failed military coup in July 2016, has been denied permission by Turkish authorities to attend his mother’s funeral.
Accordin to the Bold news poral, Doğan reportedly contracted COVID-19 in prison and thus denied permission to leave his prison cell.
According to state-run Anadolu news agency, The purge-victim man received 8 years and 9 months in prison over alleged links to the Gulen group, which the government accuses of masterminding the failed coup in 2016. The group denies any involvement.
