Four people who allegedly insulted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the Republican People’s Party (CHP) presidential candidate Muharrem İnce’s election rally on Thursday in İzmir have been detained by police, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
Detentions came after an investigation launched over a video shared on social media showing that a group of people having dinner with alcohol outside of a restaurant and chanting anti-Erdoğan slogan.
In the video which was taken by a person from balcony of a house, the group says: “You have got the power four times and you have f*cked the country. Get the f*ck out Recep Tayyip!”
According to the report, studying the video police locate the restaurant in Alsancak district of İzmir and identified people by examining the camera recordings after Izmir Chief Prosecutor’s Office launched investigation about the group for insulting statesmen.
Four have been detained while others are at large.
