Turkish government detained 11 people in the Turkish capital of Ankara for allegedly promoting propaganda for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) on social media, according to a statement by the Ankara Governor’s Office on Thursday.
According to the official statement, the suspects were using social media to promote the PKK. Meanwhile, two assault rifles and a pistol, as well as their ammunition, were seized during gendarmerie raids targeting the houses and workplaces of the suspects on Wednesday, the statement added.
The Turkish government has investigated 1,422 social media accounts and taken legal action against 251 users over the last week (June 11-June 18) on accusations of disseminating propaganda for “terrorist organisations,” the Turkish Interior Ministry announced on Monday.
