The Turkish government has investigated 1,422 social media accounts and taken legal action against 251 users over the last week (June 11-June 18) over alleged propaganda of “terror organisations,” the Turkish Interior Ministry announced on Monday.
The statement also said that at least 22 militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have been neutralized as part of anti-terror operations across Turkey over the past week. Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply that the armed militants in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
In its statement, the ministry said the Turkish Armed Forces carried out 2,043 counter-terrorism operations on June 11-18 with the assistance of land and air forces. The ministry also stated that 10 of the militants were killed, four others were captured, and eight surrendered to authorities.
