A total of 102 people were sentenced to life in prison as part of a post-coup investigation into Turkey’s War Colleges Command, on Friday.
An Istanbul court sentenced 67 of the defendants to life in jail the remaining 35 received aggravated life sentences, meaning the convicts “have to spend the rest of their lives in solitary confinement, without the possibility of parole.”
The accused were convicted on charge of attempting the remove the Constitutional order for their alleged activities on the night of the July 15, 2016 failed coup.
The War Colleges Command, now under Turkey’s newly-established National Defence University, is a graduate school providing education to military personnel.
