4.5-month pregnant woman hospitalized weeks after she was jailed

Emine Ay, a 4.5-months pregnant woman who was jailed last month, has been hospitalized due to risk of a potential miscarriage.

“I have just talked with the chief physician at the Bitlis State Hospital. She was hospitalized because she had a risk of miscarriage. She is going to be transferred to a hospital in Van. Will the Justice Ministry be accountable for such persecution?” People’s Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu tweeted Aug 15.

Cumhuriyet said in an article the same day that Ay was jailed because she had worked as an educational adviser at a private school that was earlier closed down over ties to the Gulen movement.

Detained along with her husband on July 4, 2018, Ay spent 8 days in police custody before being sent to the pre-trial detention, Cumhuriyet said.

Her husband is also in pre-trial trial detention over Gulen links.
