A Turkish teacher who was fired from his job at Manisa-based Şehzade Mehmet Ali College with a gov’t decree issued after a coup attempt on July 15, 2016, died of cancer on Sunday, a Twitter user under pseudonym @supermenlikzor wrote.
“He was my teacher at Şehzade Mehmet Ali College. They fired him with a gov’t decree. He has never given up. He worked at many different jobs until his beautiful body was defeated by cancer. He died today,” the twitter user said.
The claim has neither been confirmed nor denied by the Turkish authorities.
The military coup attempt killed 249 people and wounded more than a thousand others. Immediately after the putsch the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) government along with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the blame on the Gülen group.
The group denies any involvement.
More than 50,000 people have been jailed while more than 150,000 have been removed from state posts due to alleged Gülen links since the coup attempt.
