The Ministry of Finance and Treasury on Friday denied in a statement a claim made by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) that Turkey would sign an agreement with International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The ministry stated that it is out of question for Turkey to engage with the IMF for loans or technical support.
On Thursday CHP party spokesperson Faik Öztrak claimed that an IMF delegation was visiting Ankara for negotiations and that the Turkish economy would be “handed over” to the IMF after April 1, following the March 31 local elections.
According to the ministry, such remarks aim to distort public opinion.
