Ali Balduz, a Turkish man from the southern province of Adana, has been given a prison sentence of 18 years, 8 months for shooting at a statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey.
According to the Cumhuriyet daily, Balduz attacked the statue located at the garden of a primary school in Adana’s Ceyhan district on December 11, 2018.
An Adana court handed down the sentence on the grounds that he violated law No. 5816 on “crimes against Atatürk.”
