Prominent Turkish polling company KONDA has announced that it will not disclose its pre-election poll for Turkey’s local elections on March 31, the Artı Gerçek news website reported on Monday.
In the past the company used to publish a pre-election poll on the Thursday before a Sunday election.
In its written statement KONDA justified its decision based on the fact that Turkey’s political parties are going into these elections in an irregular network of formal or informal alliances that render it impossible for the company to make predictions on the outcome.
“In some places two parties are completely allied, coming up with joint candidates at every level of local government, while in others there are ‘partial alliances’ in which parties have a joint candidate for mayor but competing lists for city councils,” the statement read.
There are also asymmetrical situations in some locations where an alliance rivals other parties who join the race individually.
KONDA said they conducted surveys in four provinces but only shared the results with partner companies on the basis of confidentiality agreements.
