Turkish police on Thursday raided the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır office for the third time, detaining three party members on a hunger strike.
Last week police detained seven party officials out of 10 on a hunger strike demanding an end to the “isolation” of imprisoned leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Abdullah Öcalan.
The three remaining party members were detained on Thursday.
HDP deputy Leyla Güven in November went on a hunger strike when she was in prison on charges of disseminating terrorist propaganda.
Three other HDP deputies are also currently on a hunger strike for an improvement in Öcalan’s jail conditions.
The deputies are protesting Öcalan’s inability to speak with his lawyers, referring to it as his “isolation.”
HDP deputies criticize the silence in society in the face of hunger strikes that have been increasing among Kurdish politicians across the country.
