Two journalists from pro-Kurdish media organizations Mezopotamya news agency and Jinnews were briefly detained in Mardin on Wednesday.
Media reported that Ahmet Kanbal from Mezopotamya and Rojda Aydin from Jinnews were taken into custody while they were in front of the Mardin prison, reporting the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) press conference on rights abuses. The two were later released.
Earlier this week, another Mezopotamya reporter Semra Turan was detained once again in the province of Tunceli after she was detained and released earlier in March.
According to a 2018 report by Journalists without Borders (RSF), Turkey is the largest jailer of professional journalists in the world.
