Selda Baran, the chief of women’s department of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, has been detained by police as part of operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
According to Meral Danış Beştaş, a deputy of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Baran’s eight-month old baby Servan was left to the care of the relatives upon her detention by the police.
“Selda Baran, the chief of women’s department of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, was detained in a midnight house raid. Her 8-month old baby is deprived of mother’s milk,” Beştaş tweeted.
Turkey’s Ministry of Interior tweeted early on Monday morning that “particularly in Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van, 418 people in 29 provinces have been detained as part of operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK).”
