Opposition deputy demands investigation into Uzbek woman’s death in AKP deputy’s house

Sera Kadıgil, a Turkish opposition deputy, has brought the death of Nadira Kadirova, a 23-year-old Uzbek national who was working as a maid in the house of a ruling party deputy, to parliament in an inquiry demanding from the Justice Ministry a thorough and transparent investigation to avoid a possible cover-up.

Officials declared that Kadirova had committed suicide on Sept. 25 with a gun registered to Şirin Ünal, a deputy from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

According to the Turkish media, Kadirova told Leyla Niyazova, a friend of hers, that “some shameful things” had happened in the house and that her brother was surprised by the news because he thought there was nothing wrong with Kadirova.

The reports also indicate that Ünal was at the house at the time of the incident.

The Birgün daily reported on Monday that the prosecutor investigating the death asked Niyazova whether she had ever forced Kadirova into prostitution.

On Turkish social media, many opposition figures called on the judiciary to get to the bottom of the issue.
