Gülenist family at risk of deportation from Germany to Turkey

A Turkish family who reportedly has links to Turkey’s Gülen group is at risk of deportation to Turkey by the German authorities, despite evidence that they could face serious harm in the country.

According to the Bold news portal, the Gün family has recently had their asylum application rejected by Germany. Merseburg police reportedly raided the family’s house two days ago and took the father, Rahman Gün, into custody in order to proceed with the deportation order. The mother of the family, Ayşe Hilal Gün, had a panic attack during the raid and thus is curently given a medical treatment at a hospital in Merseburg, a town in the south of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt on the river Saale.

Gün told the Bold news that at least 15 of his colleagues have been arrested over Gülen links so far. “If I am returned, I will go to jail too. Everybod knows about my connection to the Gülen group in Turkey.”

Turkish government holds the Gulen movement responsible for the July 15, 2016 coup attempt while the latter denies involvement. More than 126,000 people have been detained over ties to the movement in Turkey so far while President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier called on foreign governments to punish Gulen followers in their own countries. Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Georgia and Myanmar handed over academics, businessmen and school principals upon the Turkish government’s request even though some of those victims already had refugee status with the UN.
