Alparslan Kuytul, president of the Furkan Foundation and leader of a religious group critical of the Turkish government, was released pending trial on Thursday after spending 22 months in pre-trial detention
Kuytul is still facing a 20-year prison sentence on terrorism charges.
In January, he was released by another court only to be re-arrested several days after an objection from a prosecutor.
Police cut power to cleric’s public meeting
Several hours after he was released from prison, Kuytul along with a group of his followers took the road to go to the Capital city, Ankara. However, Ankara police initially denied them an entrance to the city and then reportedly cut the main power to a restaurant where a meeting was scheduled to be held by Kuytul and his followers.
