Betül Aygün, a 28-year-old Turkish woman, has been suffering from breast cancer and one of her breast has recently been removed with a surgery. Yet, she has been held in a prison on terror and coup charges for over three years.
According to pro-Kurdish HDP Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, it was too ill to treat Aygün by the time she was dispatched to a hospital from prison. “She has been imprisoned for three years. She was denied medical treatment during this period. When she was finally dispatched to a hospital [by the prison management], she was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Gergerlioğlu said.

According to Said Sefa, a Turkish journalist, the purge-victim woman is accused of having links to Turkey’s Gülen group. Sefa says, she deposited money to the now-defunct Bank Asya, an Islamic lender founded by Gulen supporters in 1996, confiscated by the government in May 2016, and completely closed on July 22, 2016.
Turkish government blames the Gülen group for the July 15, 2016 failed takeover attempt while the latter denies any involvement.
Before the confiscation, Bank Asya was put under political and economic pressure by the government asking its loyals to withdraw their funds from the “traitor’s bank.”
Gulen supporters, back then, campaigned to deposit more money to resist the pressure, to no avail.

Turkish government survived the attempt that killed over 240 people and wounded more than a thousand others, however; AK Party officials along with Erdoğan pinned the blame on the Gülen group and launched a widespread war on its alleged and real followers.
The Gülen group denies any involvement in the attempt.
Several other cancer patients died in Turkish prisons in the past two years. Tacettin Toprak, 36, is the latest of them.
