Uğur Ergüler, a Turkish high school teacher who suffers from multiple heavy diseases, including hemorrhoids, chronic prostatitis and Chiari malformation, has been held in a Zonguldak prison for over 20 months on terror, coup charges.
Chiari malformation is a condition in which brain tissue extends into spinal canal.
According to a Twitter account, the purge-victim teacher has allegedly been staying in the Zonguldak prison for over twenty months over alleged links to Turkey’s Gülen group, which is accused of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016.
Pro-Kurdish HDP Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu has recently confirmed Ergüler’s deteriorating health condition in prison, calling on the Turkish authorities to release him pending trial for treatment. Gergerlioğlu posted the following message on Twitter:

Many people died in Turkish prison over the past three years. For instance, a Turkish teacher who was jailed after a failed coup attempt in 2016 over his links to Turkey’s Gulen group, died of heart attack in a Çorum prison in April 2019.
According to Mehmet Ali Aslan, a former pro-Kurdish deputy, Özcengiz had been held in solitary confinement for months: “Muzaffer Özcengiz, a former teacher who suffered from hypertension and diabetes, died of heart attack in solitary confinement in the Çorum prison. End the use of solitary confinement immediately!”
According to a report compiled by Turkey Purge editors, at least of 58 individuals, among which are police officers, prosecutors and teachers, have been found dead in Turkish prisons since a failed coup attempt on July 15,2016, causing serious concern about the fate of thousands of civilians who have been kept in jail in very poor conditions across the country.
