YouTube has blocked a channel run by some of Turkey’s purge victims who were dismissed from their jobs by government decrees following a 2016 coup attempt, a move that the online video company usually makes to comply with local laws and regulations.
KHK TV, which takes its name from the government decrees, known as KHKs, has been producing videos to relate the stories of purge victims since August.
Professor Haluk Savaş, a psychiatrist who was fired from his state job, is the editor-in-chief of the channel.
Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, a medical doctor who was also purged from his position and a current member of parliament, said on Thursday that the channel must have been blocked without a court order.
A short statement posted on the channel’s official Twitter account said the YouTube ban would be taken to court as soon as possible.
