Turkey registered 1,012 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the total number to 212,993, while 19 more people have died of the disease, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
According to the chart, the death toll has reached 5,363 with the latest additions.
Over the past several weeks the number of new infections has been fluctuating, although it was on an upward trajectory after an easing of anti-coronavirus measures by the Turkish government as of June 1.
There are 1,209 patients in intensive care, of whom 409 are on ventilators. The number of patients requiring intensive care has been rising since June 10, when the figure was 631.
“Five cities that have had on average the highest number of patients on ventilators over the past three days are İstanbul, Ankara, Konya, Diyarbakır, Bursa. The cities that have on average the highest number of patients in intensive care are İstanbul, Şanlıurfa, Ankara, Gaziantep and Konya. Let’s comply with [anti-coronavirus] measures to achieve the results we expect,” tweeted the minister.
The chart indicated that 1,298 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.
Turkey conducted 45,232 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 3,975,455.
The chart showed that 194,515 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.
Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
