Turkey registered 1,016 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing the total number to 211,981, while 21 more people have died of the disease, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
According to the chart, the death toll has reached 5,344 with the latest additions.
Over the past several weeks the number of new infections has been fluctuating, although it was on an upward trajectory after an easing of anti-coronavirus measures by the Turkish government as of June 1.
There are 1,194 patients in intensive care, of whom 401 are on ventilators. The number of patients requiring intensive care has been rising since June 10, when the figure was 631.
“The cities where the number of new cases have dropped over the past three days are: Kars, Çanakkale, Bartın, Artvin, Ardahan, Kütahya and Yalova. The fluctuations in the number of new cases are dependent on mask wearing and social distancing measures,” tweeted the minister.
The chart indicated that 1,334 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.
Turkey conducted 48,813 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 3,930,223.
The chart showed that 193,217 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.
Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
