İbrahim Gündüz, a purge-victim Turkish judge, and his wife died after a dinghy transporting migrants from the coast of Turkey sank on Friday near the Greek island of Kos, Greek authorities said.
According to a report by Turkish Journalist Sevinç Özarslan, three others on the boat were rescued by the Greek authorities.
Gündüz was fired from his job with a decree in the aftermath of a coup attempt in July 15, 2016. He was subsequently jailed over alleged links to the Gulen group, which the government accuses of masterminding the failed coup. The group denies any involvement.
The Purge victim judge had spent some 15 months in prison. He has been released on pending trial in late 2017.
According to a report by the Kronos news portal, two other purge-victim judges, identified with initials M.Ç. and İ.T.A. were rescued from drowning by the Greek authorities.
