Bekir Akarsu, 57-year-old purge-victim police commissioner, died of heart attack on September 3, according to Turkish journalist Sevinç Özarslan.
Akarsu was fired from his job with a decree issued by the government in the aftermath of the coup attempt in 2016. He was accused of having links to the Gulen group, which the government accuses of masterminding the failed coup. The group denies any involvement.
He reportedly had spent some two years in İstanbul’s Silivri prison.
