Advocates of Silenced Turkey (AST) proudly announces the world premiere of its first women’s rights documentary, Metamorphosis: Women’s Resilience to Oppression in Turkey. The screening will take place on March 11, 2025, in New York as a private event, marking a powerful moment of resistance, hope, and human dignity.

A Story of Resilience in the Face of Oppression

The 2016 state of emergency in Turkey triggered a devastating crackdown on civil liberties, forever altering the lives of thousands. With the imposition of emergency decrees (KHK), people were blacklisted, criminalized, and stripped of their fundamental rights. The statistics tell a grim story:

  • 150,000 public sector employees and 50,000 private sector workers have lost their jobs.
  • More than 2 million individuals have been investigated.
  • Over 600,000 people have been arrested or detained.
  • An estimated 100,000 women have been imprisoned between 2016 and 2024.
  • 191 women have lost their lives—drowned while fleeing, or perished in prison due to medical neglect.
  • Today, 759 women remain behind bars with their children, bearing witness to this ongoing tragedy.
