Man detained for criticizing Turkish minister at rally

A man who publicly criticized Turkish Minister of Interior Affairs Süleyman Soylu during an election rally on Sunday was detained after the minister reprimanded the man, local media reported.

The unidentified man who responded to Soylu’s criticism of the Felicity Party (SP) at a rally in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul was reportedly detained by police.

Soylu claimed the minor opposition SP “carried the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party [PKK] to parliament and sold off the nation” by means of a political pact with the Kurdish political movement in the legislature, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).

Soylu reprimanded the man who criticized him, with footage of the incident circulating on social media.

The whereabouts of the man is currently unknown.

Soylu is known for his public threats and had said in past weeks that visitors to Turkey who attend the events of the PKK abroad, particularly in Germany, would be detained at gates and deported immediately.
