The organization, Those Exposed to Retirement Age Barrier (EYT) is far from giving up as they held yet another rally in Istanbul to make their voices louder and heard.
The rally was held on Sunday.
The association has been seeking a solution to a retirement-related problem, that came as a result of reform in the Turkish social security system, introduced in 1999.
According to Gonul Boran Ozupak, EYT’s chairwoman: “EYT victims are not able to qualify for retirement, although they paid the required premiums for retirement. They call on lawmakers to pass a new law to solve their problems.”
On the same day, during an election rally in the western province of Balikesir, the main opposition Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, said he was aware of the EYTs and their struggles.
“We are in preparation of a law that will propose to solve the EYTs’ problems and sent it to the parliament. However, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its election ally Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) blocked it in the parliament,” Kilicdaroglu said.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once announced there were around 6,2 million people, in relation to the EYT problems.
On the other side, Serpil Sahin, a board member of the EYT Association, argued there would be an estimated 100,000 people to be retired if the law passes.
