A total of 302 healthcare workers have died of COVID-19 since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country in March, according to a statement on Monday from the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), which accused the Turkish government of poorly managing the pandemic.
“We are dying every day, every minute. You cannot manage it,” said the TTB in its statement.
The highest number of deaths among healthcare professionals took place in İstanbul, followed by İzmir and Diyarbakır, according to a chart provided by the association.
The chart shows that 274 of the victims were male, while 28 were women.
The association has been calling on the Turkish government to take effective measures and introduce a lockdown to contain the pandemic and protect healthcare workers, who are overwhelmed by the surge in the number of coronavirus patients.
In the meantime, Turkey reported 15,197 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 2,816 symptomatic patients, raising the total number of infections since March to 2,162,775, according to the health ministry. The death toll was 257 for the past 24 hours.
