Jailed biology teacher contracts Covid-19 in prison, says denied access to health care

Hilal Sakman, an imprisoned biology teacher from Turkey, has recently contracted Covid-19 in Edirne State prison, and has allegedly been denied access to health care by the prison management.

According to the a report by the Kronos news portal, 47-year-old purge-victim woman has been in prison for over two years and she has been sentenced to 7 years and five months in prison over alleged links to the Gülen group.

The group is accused by the Turkish government of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016. It denies any involvement.

Sakman used to work as a biology teacher at state schools prior to her arrest on terror charges.
