Fenerbahçe’s dismal run continues

Fenerbahçe continues to languish in relegation territory of Turkey’s Süper Lig and a 1-1 draw with Atiker Konyaspor has failed to help its cause.

Konyaspor’s Macedonian striker Adis Jahović was shown a red card in the 33rd minute of the match following a VAR inspection (Video Referee Application).

Although Fenerbahçe were a man up, the VAR also came back to haunt the Canaries as an 85th-minute goal was disallowed because of an earlier offside.

The Canaries made a quick start with a through ball to Nigerian Victor Moses, who managed to bring the ball under control, but his subsequent strike was pushed away by Konyaaspor’s goalkeeper Serkan Kırıntılı.

In the tenth minute, Fenerbahçe midfielder Miha Zajc’s strike from the left wing was punched clear by Konyaspor keeper Kırıntılı.

Konya waited for a red card but the referee shows a yellow

The excitement of the match peaked in the 13th minute after Konyaspor’s left back Leonard Zuta fell to the ground following a hard tackle by Fenerbahçe’s back liner Marti Škrtel. As soon as Zuta fell to the ground the Konyaspor waited for a red card, but to their disappointment referee, Fırat Aydınus showed a yellow card to Škrtel.

Fenerbahçe’s penalty expectation fizzled out

A Fenerbahçe’s appeal for a penalty after midfielder Jailson Marques Siqueira came off second best in a tussle with Zuta after a VAR inspection ruled there was no foul after Siqueira received medical attention.

In the 31st minute, Fenerbahçe’s defender Sadık Çiftpanar also was brought to the ground by Konyaspor striker Johovic. After referee Aydınus reviewed the foul from VAR, Jahovic was handed a red card, and Konyaspor were down to 10 men for the rest of the match.

Moryké Fofana, Ivorian striker of Konyaspor scored the first goal of the match in the 36th minute following dribbled past Sadık, to give Konyaspor a 1-0 lead.

Konyaspor’s joy at the goal only lasted a short time as Fenerbahçe’s Moroccon midfielder Nabil Dirar’s pass to Jailson was pushed by the Brazilian into the back of the net.

The first half of the match ended at 1-1.

In the second half of the match, Moses made a sharp kick from the left wing in the 49th minute of the match but missed the goal. Other attacks by Fenerbahçe failed to break the deadlock and the match finished with the scoreline even.

With this result, Fenerbahçe has dropped to 15th on the table with 24-points while Konyaspor placed 5th with a 34 points.
