Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for an explosion that killed a Turkish engineer near Mogadishu’s busy K-4 junction on Sunday.
The engineer was in Somalia working for a Turkish company.
A news report by VOA news said the engineer’s life could not be saved after he was taken to the Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan Training and Research Hospital.
The death of the engineer was confirmed by the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu.
“A Turkish a civil engineer was mercilessly blown up in his car near KM4 street,” said police spokesman Ali Hassan, Turkish media reported.
Eyewitnesses told VOA that an explosive device was placed in the car and while the Turkish engineer was riding the car, the explosion happened.
Somali’s Major Khalif Nur Shil also lost his life late Saturday when he left a mosque as the gunmen attacked him with pistols in the central Somali town of Galkayo. Al-Shabab claimed the killing of Nur Shil, the commander of joint security forces in the town.
