Ahmet Dönmez, a Turkish journalist critical of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) government, was attacked by an unidentified mob in broad daylight in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
The Bold news portal said that the assault took place in front of Dönmez’s six year-old daughter.
Dönmez is known with his sensational articles covering mafia groups aligned with the Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Several weeks ago, he said he was receiving death threats due to his efforts to reveal the clandestine connection between a mafia leader, named Ayhan Bora Kaplan and Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu.
He is currently in intensive care at a local Stockholm hospital.
In addition to his fierce opposition against the Erdogan regime, Dönmez is also known with his unprecedented criticism towards the Gulen group. He has recently published a series of articles revealing irregularities within the Gülen network.
