12 purge-victim refugees who were pushed backed by the Greek authorities at the Evros border, were sent to prison on Wednesday in Turkey over their alleged links to the Gulen group.
The Gulen group is accused of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016. The group denies any involvement.
According to the Bold news portal, the purge-victim refugees were fired from their jobs with gov’t decrees in the aftermath of the failed coup. They were among the thousands of people who attempted flee Turkey in an attempt the avoid the massive witch-hunt launched by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government.
More than 510,000 people have been detained and some 100,000 including academics, judges, doctors, teachers, lawyers, students, policemen and many from different backgrounds have been put in pre-trial detention since last summer.
Many tried to escape Turkey via illegal ways as the government cancelled their passports like thousands of others.
