8 women were detained over their alleged ties to the Gulen movement in Turkey’s Aksaray, media reported Thursday.
Detention warrants were issued for 15 women on accusation of being secretive leaders of the followers of the Gulen movement within police academy. 8 of the suspects were detained while police were searching the remaining 7 people as part of their raids at several locations in Aksaray, Ankara, Eskişehir, Mersin, İzmir, Malatya, Gaziantep, Niğde, Samsun, Adıyaman, İstanbul, Denizli and Kayseri provinces.
Turkish government accuses the Gulen movement of masterminding the July 15, 2016 coup attempt and calls it FETO, short for the alleged Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, while the latter denies involvement.
More than 511,000 people have been detained over alleged Gulen ties since the summer of 2016.
