Mehmet Keleş, a 44-year-old Turkish man who used to work as a public relations specialist at a Gülen-affiliated high school in Eskişehir, has been given 19 years in prison on terror and coup charges.
According to a twitter account, Keleş is currently being held in solitary confinement at a prison in Çorum province.
He was charged with having links to Turkey’s Gulen group, which the Turkish government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt in July 2016.
The movement denies any involvement.
The claim has neither been confirmed nor denied by the Turkish authorities.
Following the putsch, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government along with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the blame on the Gülen group, initiating a widespread purge aimed at cleansing members of the movement from within state institutions, dehumanizing its popular figures and putting them in custody.
